Hospital hand hygiene is a domain with constant need for improvement even in the countries with well-defined and executed procedures. While medical professionals receive a standard training (e.g., based on World Health Organization (WHO) routine), research shows that the quality of the actual execution of the hand disinfection procedures remains unsatisfactory. In this project we use the smart armband Myo by Thalmic and artificial neural networks to build an e-learning platform for hospital hand hygiene training, called IdealPure.
The platform contains a serious game in which the user is presented with learning materials and may practice the WHO routine while wearing the sensor armbands on their forearms. The data is analysed and compared to a “gold standard”, and feedback in form of performance ratings and ingame experience is presented for individual cleaning gestures.
